Mary and Martha

I watched this movie on the plane -- from Sydney to Singapore, trying to stay awake due to the time difference.
I was interested with this movie because of the title... but no, it's not the Mary and Martha whom we know from the Bible.

This movie is about 2 women, Mary and Martha, who went through similar situation - the loss of a child in Africa.

Mary wanted to be an extraordinary mother, who tried to show her son the world outside school, because he was bullied in school.
Bully in school is actually quite common, especially in western country (or so I heard).

Martha's son, decided to volunteer in Africa for a new experience. The guy who played as her son is actually the guy who played as Finnick in Hunger Games, Sam Claflin. His death was as detailed, but both died from malaria.

I didn't know that malaria used to be deadly, and still deadly in Africa.
This movie portrayed their struggles to go through their loss and grief, and how hard they tried to continue with their lives.

Mary and Martha in the end decided to do some research and bring this matter to the government so they could help the children in Africa for proper medication and medical attention and save millions of lives :)

The love of mother, who is supported by her husband, is wonderful :)
Love is giving, understanding, and accepting.

Frozen

Haha, back to Disney movie! :)

I personally love Disney movie, because its message is always about love, and happy ending :)
Life may not always end happily, but it's good to watch this kind of movie once a while, to restore hope, faith, and kindness.

This movie is about 2 princesses, Elsa and Anna. Unique, because usually Disney princess is an only child, or only daughter :)
Secondly, it focuses more in sibling's relationship between Elsa and Anna, not so much about true love kiss.

I like this movie because it's simple, light, but still has a lovely message and good humor in it. Hehe...

For the character, I love Anna a lot. Although she is ignored by her elder sister without knowing the reason, but she still maintains cheerful and positive personality. She reminds me to keep positive attitude towards life and not to allow my problems bring us down.

The Notebook

This movie is very romantic, and... too good to be true?
I heard a lot about this movie since few years ago, but I just found the time to watch it recently.
I like this movie, because the character and the story line can move my heart.

Plus, it's the first time I watch Ryan Gosling, haha....
Both Ryan and Rachel are so perfect for each other :)

Both Allie and Noah met during summer holiday. They may not be the perfect couple, but they love each other deeply.
The drama, the conflict, the different background between two of them, and when parents came to the picture. Hmmm.... So true, haha....

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours.”

I enjoyed watching this movie :) and it gave me hope in true love... fight for love, fight for something that you truly love and believe, even when you hurt your loved ones.

When Life Doesn't Go Your Way

How many times in our life that we have our own plans, wishes, dreams, or scripts that didn't go as we hope it would be?

Katrina Zeno has given me more than inspiration, but also encouragement, that God creates us for a purpose. We are created for a greater glory and that we are chosen, blessed, broken, and given.

Chosen
We are chosen among the people, because we are the beloved children of God.

Blessed
We belong to a loving God who will never leave us alone.

Broken
Through our brokenness, it tells something unique about us. Our brokenness "is an opportunity to purify and deepen the blessing that rests upon us" (Fr. Nouwen). It allows God's light to shine through us. Through divine mercy, God transform our brokenness into blessedness.

Given
Our brokenness is what allows us to be given in a particular way,to fulfill the unique mission that God has for our lives.

What really struck me is, we need to have a heart of hope and a heart of patience.

Hope means that we believe that God is working all the time, even when we can't see it. A heart of hope is a heart that presses into God and stays connected instead of drawing away.

"People who wait have received a promise that allows them to wait. They have received something that is at work in them, like a seed that has started to grow."
-Fr. Nouwen

When we live in patience and hope, letting go of control, then our waiting can be open to all possibilities.

Therefore dear brothers and sisters in Christ, have a hopeful heart & be blessed! :)

Warm Bodies

Julie & R

This movie is so romantic!! :)
Zombie and human? Falling in love?? :)

It's just too cute. He can speak what's in his mind perfectly clear but what comes out from his mouth is just groaning.
It's so funny when he said, "This is my best friend. By best friend, I meant we occasionally bump into each other and groan."
Hahaha....

R is one unique zombie. He collects stuff, listen to music, has his own space (plane)....
He will think about his past although he couldn't remember anything, he will explain what he does....
It gave me different perspective about zombie though, and I'm not sure all zombies are as nice as he is.

Finally, as any other drama movie, there's some romantic touch, and "Awww..." moment :)

Oh yes, I love the soundtrack too!!
Just listen to some songs, who knows you might like it :) Hehehe....

Les Misérables

Have you watched this movie? It's a GREAT movie!!
Well, they don't talk, but singing the whole dialogue :)

There are few main characters in the movie:
Jean Valjean - played by Hugh Jackman
an ex-con who was saved and forgiven by a Bishop, and he learnt to love others.

Fantine - played by Anne Hathaway
a single mother, who was trying to support her daughter and herself by working odd jobs until she died.

Javert - played by Russel Crowe
a police inspector dedicating his life to imprisoning Valjean once again.

Cossette - played by Amanda Seyfried
Fantine's daughter, who was taken care by Jean Valjean after her mother passed away.

This movie shares a lot of love, from God and human being. It is is based on the 1862 French novel by Victor Hugo. Therefore it shows the condition of French's war and revolution.

I love how they answer one another in a long sentence, not as short as "okay."
Here are some quotes from the movie which are meaningful for me.

“To love another person is to see the face of God.”

“Life's great happiness is to be convinced we are loved.”

"I'm a man, no worse than any man. You are free, and there are no conditions. No bargains or petitions. There is nothing that I blame you for. You have done your duty, nothing more."

It gave me different perspective of loving other human being, especially those who do not like you and treat you wrong.

And I agree with my friend, truly, it's a Catholic movie :)
